Cookie Policy

This page explains what we store on your device and why. Nothing beyond the strictly necessary is stored until you choose to allow it, and you can change or withdraw that choice at any time.

Purposes

Strictly necessary. Keeps the site working: your cart, your language choice and this consent record itself. Cannot be switched off, and never used to track you.

Preferences. Remembers choices you have made, such as filters and view settings, so the site behaves the same on your next visit.

Statistics. Tells us which stories are read and where readers drop off. Aggregated — we do not use it to identify you.

Marketing. Loads optional social-media embeds and lets us measure whether a campaign brought you here. Third parties may set their own cookies.

What we store

bt_consent records your choice, its version and the date, so we can honour it and demonstrate it. It expires after six months, after which we ask again. Your cart is kept in your browser’s local storage so it survives a refresh; it is not sent anywhere until you check out.

Third parties

Optional purposes may load tags from third parties. Those load only after you allow the relevant purpose. If you refuse, they are never requested. Where a third party has already set a cookie on its own domain, you may also need to clear it in your browser.

X posts used in selected editorial guides are loaded only when you allow Marketing. Without that choice, the article remains readable and provides a direct link to each original post instead.

Your choices

Refusing is as easy as accepting, and refusing does not limit access to any part of the site. Your browser settings can also block or delete cookies entirely.

Our secrets are your secrets

Once a month: new addresses, one long story from the archive, and reader letters.
